Sign on plain white paper using black or dark blue ink. Scan it, or photograph it with your phone in good lighting. Crop tightly around the signature before uploading.
The tool is pre-set to 20KB and JPG — exactly what UIDAI requires. Do not change the format to PNG or WebP for Aadhaar uploads.
Click "Upload Signature" or drag and drop your image file. The tool compresses it to under 20KB in your browser — nothing is sent to any server.
Download the compressed signature and upload it to the Aadhaar self-service update portal at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in or via the mAadhaar app.
UIDAI has specific technical requirements for the signature image uploaded to the Aadhaar portal. Using the wrong format is the most common reason signature uploads are rejected.
| Requirement | UIDAI Specification | This Tool's Default |
|---|---|---|
| File Format | JPEG / JPG only | ✓ JPG |
| File Size | Under 20KB | ✓ 20KB target |
| Background | White / plain light | ✓ Preserved as-is |
| Ink colour | Black or dark blue | ✓ Not modified |
| Orientation | Landscape (wider than tall) | ✓ Crop before upload |

If the UIDAI portal rejects your signature, one of these reasons is almost always the cause. Each has a simple fix:
Phone camera photos are typically 2MB–8MB — over 100× the 20KB limit. The portal rejects them silently.
Uploading a PNG, WEBP, or PDF instead of JPEG. The portal only accepts JPG/JPEG.
Signatures on lined, coloured, or printed paper are rejected. Background must be plain white.
A very small or low-resolution scan cannot be compressed to 20KB while remaining legible.
Yes — completely. Here is exactly how your signature is handled (or more accurately, not handled):
This makes the tool completely private and safe to use with sensitive government documents like Aadhaar-related signatures. The same privacy-first architecture powers all tools on EasyToolkit.
